Despite
its private, secluded setting, South Pointe is only five minutes
from the Cable Union Airport, 30 minutes from the Hayward Airport
and 40 minutes from Ashland. The Cable runway can accommodate many
types of private jet aircraft; the longer runways in Hayward and
Ashland can easily handle most others.
Chicago
is about a seven-hour drive, Minneapolis and Saint Paul are only
three hours, and Duluth is just over an hour. The local phone
co-op provides modern telecommunications service and high-speed
internet access. In nearby Cable and Hayward, there’s convenient
shopping for groceries, antiques, gifts and sporting goods. Several
world-class golf courses are just a few minutes away; within an
hour’s drive, you’ll find several more. The surrounding
area, including thousands of acres of Chequamegon National Forest,
is a recreation paradise for hiking, hunting, bird watching, paddling,
biking, skiing and snowmobiling. The Cable area is famous for
its mountain biking and cross-country ski trails; it is home to
the American Birkebeiner and the Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival.
